Quote of the Week

“Glamour, like the silent-movie stars, can both be subtle and intense. Is there anything more chic than a French woman in a simple black dress and silk scarf? Chic requires editing and restraint, but when you get it right nothing is as bewitching. Ultimately, glamour is about romance and a love affair with your home.”

Tudo sobre Rich Kids of Beverly Hills!

E quem assiste, favor compartilhar comentários e favoritos!

Sponsor Spotlight: Memorial Antiques & Interiors

{I loved this well-curated new booth.}
I am so excited to share some images of  Memorial Antiques & Interiors from one of my recent visits.  Memorial Antiques & Interiors, or MAI as design-savvy Houstonians call it, is Houston’s premier resource for beautiful antiques and special vintage finds and has been a sponsor on LDV since last year. MAI has grown significantly since my first visit in 2008, expanding to three stores filled with stunning vignettes curated by a group of more than fifty antique dealers, designers, and decorators. MAI has become a personal favorite shopping destination and a go-to resource for interior designers and smart shoppers in Houston alike. In fact, a few of my decorator friends have booths at MAI that I like to visit as often as possible. At MAI, you’ll find pieces ranging from European antiques to Mid-Century Modern, in categories including accessories, custom lighting, furniture, original art, and  architectural elements. Be sure to visit often! I like to visit MAI as frequently as I can. Its is a fabulous destination for gathering inspiration and finding that special treasure for a client.

{A Wider View of the Same Chic Booth}
{I love this pair of chairs.}
{A Great Mercury Glass Lamp and Zebra Hide Boxes}
{MAI has added some great art vendors lately. Art is such an important element of design and it can also be one of the most challenging items to source, so it’s so nice to have so many fantastic options in one place.}
{I loved this Twombly-esque charcoal piece.}
{I loved the brass side tables with mirrored tops in this booth.}
{My friends, Lauren Haskett and Meg Lonergan have a great booth called Navy which is a great resource for decorative accessories and Alexis Walter Art.}
{I wish I knew the name of the owner of this booth because he or she has great style. This booth always features a chic mix of furniture and accessories.}
{I love this petit burl wood bombay chest.}

É o tal do supermercado fashion!

What the Kardashians teach us about interior design

I’ve always loved the design sensibility of Kris Jenner. She’s my kind of girl black & white everywhere. However, with the help of my girl Jeanette aka the color whisperer, we discovered how her interiors impact her empire. Today, we are taking a look into how important home decor actually affects the rest of your life. I am a huge believer that your interiors dictate your world (which I will write more on later)…entryway

Millions of people tune in every week to see what drama is occurring with the Kardashians. And drama there is.  We all face strife in our life, but it is how we deal with the conflict that shapes who we are.bedroom lounge

A little known way that affects how we deal with strife is the design of our homes.   Our surroundings create a mood, can fill us with energy or even deplete our soul.  The home is a reflection of our world and the Kardashians’ home is putting off quite the glare.

bedroom

The first time I saw the show, the house fixated me. The plot was okay, but the home. Wow. Every home tells a story, and this one was speaking LOUDLY to me.  Each one of us has different personalities, and unique energies. The things we fill our homes with reflect that. office

As I was looking at the house, I saw Kris everywhere. I could see nothing for anyone else. I could not stop dissecting the main spaces that she shares with Bruce.  Kris’s style is dramatic, bold, high contrast colors, lots of black and white.  These colors feed her and allow her to feel comfortable. She should have that around her, she needs that around her.  bath

Bruce, however, does not; his personality appreciates casual colors, more earth tones and lighter feel.   In one episode he was curled up on the only piece of furniture in their bedroom that he could resonate with.  That was a cry for help.  He wanted to belong. The decor of the home doesn’t acknowledge Bruce’s more relaxed style. In exasperation, he lamented, “I don’t feel like I belong there”.  There was none of his energy in the home.
outdoor
Subsequently there have been shows where he’s gone out of town and they didn’t notice. He even moved out.  The story of the breakup was there a long time ago, and it was prophesied through the furniture. Now most men allow their wives to take decorative control, especially when they are married to strong women.  However, in a good marriage, a wife will think about her husband, even if he doesn’t care. A home should share their energy.jenner

Your home has a whisper. Keeping up with your home is more than just keeping it clean and neat.  It’s keeping up with your life, what changes are going on in your world, who do you want to be and what’s important to you. Really look at your home and try “listening” to the story it’s telling.

Didn’t J nail it on the head? The lesson here: Make sure your home is filled with the things you love. Pay attention to each room and the vibe its giving off. Does it work with you? or is it time for a makeover? If you have questions, leave a comment I’m happy to answer!

FLORAL FIXATION

Good morning and happy Monday, Everyone! Hope you enjoyed your weekend! To say that I’ve been obsessed with dresses lately would be an understatement. Don’t really know what it is about warm weather that brings out my inner dress fanatic, but I can’t seem to stop wearing them! Of course this particular shift number from By Johnny is an embodiment of a few of my obsessions, i.e. dresses, floral print, asymmetric hemlines and the color blue.

Though it is the first time it’s appearing on this blog, I have to confess, for the past few weeks I’ve been wearing it non stop. What can I say, it’s one of those pieces that works with everything! And I don’t know about you guys, but I figure different shoes, bags and accessories paired with the same dress equals a completely new outfit! No?:)

When I really like something, I tend to get the item in multiple colors. Whether it’s a pair of shoes  or in todays case, this dress. I picked it up both in white and black and have already worn both of them more than once. Future brides: if you have a bridal shower coming up, or any wedding related activities, I highly recommend! I love that it really acts like a blank canvas and can be worn in a simple way or jazzed up with accessories and some fun shoes. Bonus points for being under $100!

Soft Layers :: Silk shirtdress & Pearl earrings

Soft Layers-5

Happy Monday everyone!  Hope you had a fantastic weekend full of laughter and joy!

Soft Layers-14

These pearl earrings are heavily Dior inspired (minus the wait list) and in a blush color.  I tried on the Mise en Dior earrings at the boutique a few weeks ago and found that the white pearl color unfortunately didn’t complement by skin tone.  I really liked the design though.  It’s such a unique spin on the classic pearl stud style.  These Bauble Bar versions are a light rose color which lays softer against my skin tone.  Dior, however, does carry a green version, and since I love the color emerald, I’m going to track them down and try them on =)

A few months ago, I had the honor of shooting with Elle Magazine at the Empire Hotel in New York.  We had so much fun on set!  Between twirling, laughing, and styling different outfits, I couldn’t help but smile from cheek to cheek.  I count my blessings everyday and am so thankful for the feature in the magazine!

    Mother’s Day was this past weekend.  My mentee and a few close friends of mine are mothers, and I see the unconditional love, unwavering support, and complete devotion that they have for their children.  It’s such a beautiful sight and incredibly inspiring.  For all of the mothers out there, happy belated Mother’s Day!  For those who do not have a mother figure in their lives, you are in my thoughts.  Sending you virtual hugs and wishing you endless peace and love today and always.

Thank you so much for reading!

Choker Collar

Choker Collar

I'm of the firm belief that you can never have too many black dresses (or slouchy sweatshirts for that matter). While the color is simple, there are so many interpretations and styles of a basic dress that I find myself adding a new one to my closet every few months. I'm all about this Cynthia Steffe piece, with its sharp cut-outs and refined tailoring, and love that its choker-esque neckline feels like an accessory in itself.

Dvf journey of a dress

_MG_2358-copia

“There are items that, through the time, not only become iconic but make fashion history.
Diane Von Furstenberg signature wrap-dress is one of these”. Here is how I started the post talking to you about the iconic Dvf wrap dress and about the exhibition which celebrated its 40 years.
And then? Then It was my turn to wear it and make it mine.
And I chose Los Angeles and my beloved Melrose, feeling a bit like a modern diva wearing a dress that has been worn by some of my biggest icons, living my American dream

Always A Party { At Patina }

RentPatina1Patina is probably the coolest place we’ve yet gotten to kick it in in New York City. It’s an ever-evolving 3-dimensional Pinterest board of an enormous warehouse space, where charmingly reupholstered vintage couches wait like eager chess pieces, ready to be rearranged and played with. We were lucky to shoot there on a Friday afternoon, when Roberta’s legendary pizza and spiked mint lemonades flow freely.

Being there feels like an instantly-comfy cocktail party at your coolest friend’s loft. One never wants to leave, to return to reality. Had we officially discovered New York’s best kept secret? Could we bear to share it?! Well, it wouldn’t be right to keep it all to ourselves. We administered a good old The Glamourai grillfest to Corrin Arasa, mastermind, founder, and creative director of this delectable spectacle. RentPatina2|ABOVE| Corrin Arasa, the sparkling, pixie-cut queen of this magical land

Where are you from?
East End of Long Island

What brought you to New York?
Was there another option?!

How do you describe Patina?
Patina is pretty unique, we are a vintage and handmade furniture design studio and rental shop. We work with event designers to create unique and memorable spaces. Coming from that background myself, my passion for vintage furniture and design has always been part of my creative aesthetic, and now I’ve come full circle with Patina. It’s my entelechy; I couldn’t imagine doing anything else ever again.

Can anyone drop in?
Yeah, sure, just give us a heads-up first.  On Fridays we usually make mimosas or bloody mary’s so its a good day to come by.

What sort of collaborators have contributed to the uniqueness of Patina’s pieces?
This year we started collaborating with makers and artists to create custom collections for Patina.  Our first collection was a collaboration with Domestic Construction, some amazingly talented designers in Brooklyn, and we just launched another with The Color Condition, installation artists out of Dallas who create these beautiful and colorful streamers that, when installed, just take a life of their own. I love working with creative people to bring elements that might have been difficult to attain before, and bringing them to a new market.
RentPatina3|ABOVE| an eighties-era dining chair that’s been completely reinvented with weavings by Domestic Construction

How often is the space completely reinvented?
Almost every day! Because things come and go all the time the space is in a constant state of change. Some days it’s completely full, on a busy day it could be totally empty.  We are also always building new pieces or bringing life to old ones, so we have new things in the studio all of the time. We have fun by constantly rearranging and playing with different set ups to get inspiration and see how things work together.  It’s pretty cool to be in a real-life size inspiration board surrounded by everything I love.

How were you able to raise the capital to invest in this collection?
After I left corporate life about 10 years ago I started an event design and production company ~ we did some pretty major events for some great brands. I invested some of the earnings from that venture into Patina.  I couldn’t have made a better choice ~ this combines all of my passions.

What is the most elaborate project you’ve done?
We worked with Spotify to source and design some pieces for their NYC and San Francisco stages. We picked up on their already amazing office design and created some custom vintage-inspired lighting, sourced some great pieces that fit their vibe, and redesigned some vintage couches and chairs in colorful velvets. This was a really fun project to work on ~ the team over there is amazing.RentPatina4My favorite daydream is the launch of Patina Home, a new retail collection.

I’d like to steal this turquoise 1960′s BMW that is always parked down the block. The windows are always open and I just want to jump in and drive away.

I am happiest when I’m sitting on my porch at home up in the Hudson Valley on a warm Friday evening. Its renovation is an ongoing project and also feels very much an extension of Patina.

The most memorable party I’ve ever been to was a throwback roller skating party in a big old warehouse in Bushwick.  Oh ok, so it was our party! We decked out the place with all of our stuff, had Chances with Wolves play throwback jams, and Roberta’s rolled in the wood fire oven to serve slices. Coolhaus brought the ice cream truck right into the warehouse, and we had a tattoo artist there doing real, live tattoos for anyone who wanted one (there was a waitlist for 30 that had to be refused!). Our friends and clients are really fun, there was breakdancing on roller skates involved; it was a great night!

Roberta’s Pizza is on speed dial.

My #1 social media addiction is Instagram (ed note: she’s got a majorly follow-worthy Pinterest account too!)

My greatest fashion moment was when I worked at a library when I was in high school and my boss called me in to his office to discuss my “strange wardrobe”.

I want to be able to keep a plant alive.RentPatina5The thing that would surprise people most about my job is how much furniture I can lift.

My top beauty essentials are Ren Cleansing Balm and Chantecaille Water Lily Lipstick

Every woman should own a killer vintage men’s watch.

Every man should own a killer vintage men’s watch.

I’d love to have a chance to work with Diane von Furstenburg, she’s a pretty amazing lady.

My favorite place to shop is at auctions.

These days, the thing I wear most often is a ripped up old pair of Earnest Sewns, Adidas Gazelles and a t-shirt with loads of vintage necklaces and rings.

The coolest place I’ve ever been is Grinda, a small island outside of Stockholm.

Right now, I’m obsessed with African Mudcloth and Peruvian Textiles.

Vintage is where my soul feels most at home.

Look do Dia – Mix de Oncinha

Sabe aquela velha frase: roupa é no corpo.

Black Fringed Kimono…

Today is Mother’sDay…and my mom just left after 10 days here in Miami- at least I got to spend time with her. I wore this outfit the day we both bought our wedding dresses ( I got the most amazing wedding gown and she found the perfect “mother of the bride” dress). I feel so happy and grateful that I got to spend that moment with her. We live so far away, that I thought I wasn’t going for wedding dresses with her.
That day I was feeling a little boho; and I wanted to wear this gorgeous black fringed kimono. I paired it with my favorite vintage shorts and a simple crop top. I hope you are having a fantastic day with your family and loved ones! XOXO
____

Invisalign Update: The Not-So-Good Bits

Smile!

I hope you’re all having a happy Sunday? I always feel that Sundays are the perfect time to post something a little more lifestyle and a little less dressy – after all, the majority of you are probably sitting on the sofa in your PJs, chowing down on comfort food, right?!

So, for those of you that have been following me Invisalign journey, here is another update! This time I’m going to be talking about the more negative sides of the process, as I think it’s really important that you’re filled in on everything if you’re thinking about getting Invisalign too.

If you read my previous posts, you’ll know that I’m 100% happy with the results and that wearing Invisalign doesn’t really bother me at all as I’m incredibly tolerant to most things – especially when I’m getting a big pearly smile out of it at the end! But that being said, there are a few things about Invisalign that might bother some people. If you’re thinking about straightening your teeth, do read on!

Pain

So, I’ve mentioned this before, but when you change your Invisalign trays every two weeks, you’re in for a good day or two of discomfort. I’m not a grumpy person by any means, but changing my trays can put me in a bad mood – I’m hardly ever stocked up on painkillers so walking around with an achey jaw is usually inevitable. It also sometimes makes it difficult eating particularly crunchy food.

To avoid the initial discomfort, I try and put them in during the evening so I can sleep through it.

Buttons

One thing that usually worries people the most when they hear about it is the fact you’ll need to have little white bumps put on your teeth to allow the trays to click in place. Not so invisible after all! You can see them, but usually people only cotton on once I’ve pointed them out. They aren’t huge, and don’t bother me at all.

The placement of these little buttons will vary depending on your teeth – mine are all at the side, and if you look close enough you’ll spot them on my incisors in the pictures in this post.

Ouch, my tongue!

This is my absolute least favourite thing about Invisalign. I’ll only find it with certain trays, but some seem to have sharper, hasher edges than others, and this kind leave my tongue feeling very unhappy indeed. I get ulcers and soreness where my tongue has been rubbing against the back of the trays – and this can be even worse when you’re the kind of person that can’t help but move your tongue around your mouth, exploring it’s new inhabitants.

I’ve read about people slightly filing down the sharp edges, as well as using dental wax to cover them up – I’ve not tried either method but most definitely should as my tongue would thank me for it!

Keep up-to-date!

I’m super duper guilty of not keeping on top of my appointments, and if you are too, it’s worth bearing in mind that you’ll need to keep popping in to see your practitioner every few months.

My Invisalign practitioner Azamay is over an hour away, which doesn’t make popping in to collect my new trays very easy. So much so, that whilst I’ve been so busy over the past few months, I’ve ended up wearing the same trays for far too long after not making my appointment. This can lead to discoloured trays in which the plastic starts to break (which certainly doesn’t feel nice in your mouth!) and also bad breath. Keep on top of it!

As usual, if you have any questions at all about Invisalign, drop me a comment below and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can!

I have been given a discount on my treatment by Align Technology, creators of Invisalign, in exchange for writing the above, however the views expressed here are my views only and not those of Align

Queen Of The Night

What do you get when you strip away the anonymity afforded by the masks at ‘Sleep No More,’ add a mouthwatering menu, a Thom Browne-designed wardrobe and Giovanna Battaglia’s creative vision and decadent detailing, and a lavish 1940’s New York City nightclub revamped and reopened? Mixing theater and thrills, avant garde with acrobatics, music and magic, and Broadway and burlesque, producer Randy Weiner’s latest fusion performance, ‘Queen of the Night,’ is nothing short of a circus for the senses.

Pushing the bounds of interactive theater even further, audience members are fully immersed in the extravagant affair loosely based on Mozart’s opera, “The Magic Flute.” The “dark debutante ball” fills The Paramount Hotel’s sprawling ballroom, Diamond Horeshoe, with no expense spared. Guests wine, dine and become part of the evening’s gala, joining a cast of characters for an ever-changing experience.

Outreached hands will invite you in to join in the revelry and secrets of the space. Expect the unexpected and be bold. You never know what delights may be waiting for you behind the velvet curtains.

Mum love

3U5A9995

A day dedicated to one of my biggest inspirations, the woman who taught me to always be myself and from who I inherited most of my passions: my mum.
A day spent together around Milano, shooting in some of my (and our) favourite places.
A day of laughs and quality time together.
A day that made me realize that, despite being 27 and traveling the world nonstop, nothing makes me feel like home more than one of her hugs.
Happy mother’s day, I’m so proud of you!
